Richmond Pediatrics is open on the weekends for sick visits only according to the following hours, West End Office Saturdays 9 AM-12 PM, Mechanicsville Office Sundays 9-11 AM. Please call ahead for an appointment.

Learn Who We Are

  • Caylee Carrey, C.P.N.P.
    Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners

    Caylee is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She then received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia, where she also graduated Summa Cum Laude. Prior to joining Richmond Pediatric Associates in January of 2021, Caylee worked at St. Mary’s Hospital on their pediatric unit, as well as doing pediatric home health. During her free time, Caylee enjoys traveling, yoga, exploring Richmond, volunteering with a local charity that assists with the care of medically fragile children and spending time with her husband and their husky. 

  • Lori K. Mitchell, M.D.

    Lori is a native Texan and completed medical school and pediatric residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She relocated to Richmond, VA in 2020 with her family and joined Richmond Pediatrics in 2021. Dr. Mitchell is board certified in Pediatrics. She graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Dr. Mitchell is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association. She enjoys theatrical productions, a variety of board and card games, and spending time with her husband and two sons.

  • Skye Lu, D.O.

    Skye has been with Richmond Pediatrics since spring of 2023. She completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and attended medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Lu completed residency in pediatrics at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. As a pediatrician she has particular interests in developmental and behavioral health. She enjoys running, yoga, snowboarding, traveling, and exploring new restaurants. She lives with her husband, son, and two cats.

  • William P. Guthrie, D.O.

    Will has been with Richmond Pediatrics since August 2022. Dr. Guthrie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech, getting a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. He graduated with Honors from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency training here in Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University. In his free time, he likes grilling, travel, following the NBA and NFL, going to the movies, and hanging out with his wife and silly dog, Spaghetti.

  • J. Richard Klaas, M.D

    J.Richard has been a pediatrician at Richmond Pediatric Associates since 1996. He enjoyed growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and still visits there frequently. He was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia. There, he pursued a premedical curriculum with interests in biology and child psychology, and graduated in 1989. He then attended the University of Michigan Medical School, where he graduated in 1993. He was inducted into the Galens Medical Society at Michigan in 1991. Dr. Klaas completed his Internship and Residency in Pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center in 1996. Dr. Klaas was appointed Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been active in teaching medical students and residents, both in our office and at the medical school. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has numerous interests and hobbies, including kayaking, gardening, biking, and reading.

  • Sonja Haugeto, M.D.

    Sonja joined Richmond Pediatrics in July of 2001. She came to our group after just completing her Residency in Pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Haugeto holds a Bachelor Degree in Science from Cornell University and completed medical school Cum Laude at SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. During her medical education, Dr. Haugeto was admitted into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. Dr. Haugeto is board certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Haugeto has three daughters. She enjoys swimming, hiking, and skiing. She volunteers at the YMCA to promote fitness in the community.

  • David Gosselin, M.D.

    David joined Richmond Pediatrics in July of 2002. He currently serves as the practice president. Dr. Gosselin completed his residency in pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. He also attended medical school at MCV and has participated in numerous volunteer activities in the Richmond area. Dr. Gosselin is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Gosselin received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of William and Mary where he majored in biology. He enjoys reading and spending time with his three children.

  • Kimberly M. Phillips, M.D.

    Kimberly attended medical school at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Following graduation, she moved to Richmond to attend the Medical College of Virginia for her Internship and Residency in Pediatrics. At the end of her residency, she was appointed Pediatric Chief Resident and in 2003 she was awarded the Emily Gardiner Chief Resident Award. At the completion of her chief resident year, Dr. Phillips worked at MCV as an Assistant Professor and Director of the residents’ clinic. She left MCV to join Richmond Pediatrics in March of 2004. Dr. Phillips is board certified in Pediatrics, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She enjoys travel, skiing, water sports, reading, and spending time with her family. She is married and has four daughters.

  • Kathleen K. LaRosa, M.D.

    Kathleen joined Richmond Pediatrics in February of 2004. Prior to that time, she was practicing pediatrics with a practice in Chesterfield. Dr. LaRosa attended medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. Her residency in pediatrics was completed at Baylor College of Medicine in Texas and, thereafter, she started practicing pediatrics in Pearland, Texas. Dr. LaRosa is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is active as a preceptor for students at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. LaRosa and her husband, a fellow physician, have three children and reside in Richmond.

  • Kathryn E. Nelson, M.D. Nelson, M.D.

    Kathryn has been with Richmond Pediatrics since autumn of 2010. She completed her undergraduate education at St. Olaf College prior to attending medical school at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Dr. Nelson fulfilled her internship and residency requirements in pediatrics at the University of Virginia’s Health System just prior to coming to work for Richmond Pediatrics. She is board certified in pediatrics. Dr. Nelson is especially interested in the areas of developmental pediatrics and promoting healthy lifestyles with her patients. She also has interest in children with chronic health issues. Dr. Nelson enjoys music, exercising, and hiking as well as spending time with her husband and young son and daughter.

  • Andrew Anderson, M.D.

    Andy joined Richmond Pediatrics in 2018. An avid student of history, he studied classics at the University of Virginia.   In between college and medical school, he worked as both a teacher and a paramedic.   Andy had the good fortune to complete both medical school and residency locally at Virginia Commonwealth University.  While in school, he was particularly struck by the idea that the best way to love one's neighbor is to love their children; this naturally led to a career in pediatrics.  Dr. Anderson and his wife have four wonderful, rambunctious children; he postulates this as the cause of his receding hairline.  In his free time, he enjoys long distance running, reading, and meditation. 

  • Stephanie K. Smith, C.P.N.P., CLC
    Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners

    Stephanie is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She received a BS in Biology from Virginia Tech in 1994 followed by a BS and MS in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996. She worked in private practice in Williamsburg, VA prior to joining Richmond Pediatric Associates in 1997. She is a certified lactation counselor (CLC) and enjoys working with families to meet their nursing goals. She also precepts nurse practitioner students from Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Virginia. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys traveling, cooking, pilates and making memories with her husband and three boys. 

  • Sabrina Hawkins, C.P.N.P., CLC
    Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners

    Sabrina was born and raised in Switzerland and speaks English and French fluently. She attended James Madison University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences. Sabrina then completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University and began working in King George, VA as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. After five years of practicing in King George, she joined Richmond Pediatric Associates in October 2013. Sabrina loves spending time with her husband and two sons, traveling, reading, and exercising.Sabrina is a certified lactation counselor and accepts lactation appointments Monday through Thursday.
