In the event of a life threatening emergency or serious accident, always take your child to the nearest emergency room. Ask someone to notify the office, if possible, before leaving for the hospital so that we might assist you.

If your child is experiencing an emergency and you cannot get through on our phone line, please call our answering service, available 24 hours a day, at 1-800-336-5261. The Poison Control Center's number is 804-828-9123 or 1-800-222-1222. One of our physicians is always on call when our office is closed in order to handle after-hours emergencies.

Richmond Pediatrics also employs specially-trained registered nurses to handle your questions and concerns when the office is closed. These triage nurses follow approved protocols to determine necessary and appropriate care for your child. These nurses are available to take your questions or concerns from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm weeknights and from 12:00 noon until 10:00 pm on weekends and holidays. Please be assured that if you would rather speak directly to the physician on-call, the nurse will page him or her for you.

Our physicians have privileges at St. Mary's Hospital and Henrico Doctor's Hospital. Please be aware that your insurance company may not pay for services rendered at all of these facilities. For instance, patients with Sentara's Optima plan can not receive treatment at Henrico Doctors' Hospital.
